Darius Ogundele, a graduate of Knightdale High School was the 2020 Sigma Scholars Scholarship winner. He maintained a 3.2 GPA.
Darius was active in The Boys Scouts of America, Troop 347 of Knightdale NC, where he completed over 30 hours of community service. Darius was a member of the Men’s Varsity Tennis team, and a member of the Knightdale High School Concert/Marching Band.
He was very active and engaged even while dealing with the effects of Sickle Cell Disease. According to Darius, his challenges with Sickle Cell inspired him to help children living with the disease by wanting to provide medical care, moral support to parents and other family members, and lastly, by bringing awareness to the community through education. He believes sharing with other young people that Sickle Cell is not a death sentence but a LIFE SENTENCE has made a difference.
Darius is currently a sophomore enrolled at North Carolina A & T State University majoring in Biology. Upon successful completion of his undergraduate degree, Darius plans to enroll in medical school or a physician assistant school program to study internal medicine/hematology.
