Steven Evans, Jr., a graduate of Knightdale High School, was the 2021 Sigma Scholars Scholarship winner. He graduated with a 3.9259 GPA.
Steven was very active in his high school. He served as a Peer Tutor, SGA Vice President, Wake County Truth and Reconciliation Committee Representative and Leader, a member of the Hispanic Student Association, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council School Representative, wrestler on the JV Wrestling Team, JV Cross Country runner, Varsity Tennis Team member, and working part-time at the local Walmart. Steven managed to do all these amazing things with the goal of bettering himself and his community. Steven was accepted into several prestigious universities—including North Carolina A & T State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Harvard College. He decided to attend Harvard College. Steven hopes to use the Sigma Scholars scholarship to assist with his study aboard experiences that Harvard College will offer. He believes that full immersion in a foreign culture is the best way to hone his Spanish-speaking ability and will best prepare him to use his bilingual perspective to connect with a variety of cultures on personal and professional levels. He hopes to become a bilingual Mathematician and Social Advocate.
